Wegracecoureur Victor Steeman overleden na crash
Street racer Victor Steeman has died following his crash last Saturday at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimo, Portugal.
At the start of the week in Portugal, Victor (22), thanks in part to four wins this season, still has the chance to win the Supersport 300 world title. During the race on Saturday 8 October, Victor had a hard crash. Another rider was also involved and Victor was hit by an engine while falling. He was taken to hospital with head injuries, where he died from his injuries on Tuesday night, October 11. Victor's family released the following statement via the WorldSBK Title website: "Something that has always been feared as a parent of a machine racer has now happened. Despite the loss and unbearable grief, we are very proud to share with you that our hero, through his death, was able to save five others by donating organs. We will miss our Victor very much."We spoke with Victor ahead of the game in Portugal . As usual, he shows his best and most aggressive side in interviews. Of course he wants to try to become a world champion, but he is very proud and grateful for all that he has achieved with his team and the people around him.
The chance to become a World Champion and Victor's dream to one day race in World Superbikes have now been snatched away from him and his loved ones. And it hurts. Dutch motorsport lost a passionate top talent and good man who thousands of fans stood on the bench in front of Assen last April, when he clinched a beautiful victory there.
Our thoughts and support to Victor's family, MTM Kawasaki Racing Team, his friends and others close to him. We wish them a lot of strength with this big loss.
